EcoCaching is the latest
program developed by LifeOutdoors to get everyone, especially students, more excited about being outside by playing a "scavenger hunt" game. Modeled after geocaching
where GPS and other mobile devises are used to find human treasures,
ecocaching is all about finding clues from natural treasures at "stops" using smartphones, (& hidden QR codes), to access a wealth of information about these special places, the creatures that live there and the experts who know them best. Ecocachers must answer questions at each "stop" in order to move on to the next "stop" and complete the 4-6 stop route. Participants come away with a "sense of place," in other words a much better understanding and appreciation for the history, geology, ecology & various humans interactions that have occurred at that particular location.
